Little is known about this conflict, except that
tradition states the men of Clan Cameron took part in an expedition to the
country of the MacKays in Sutherland and that they defeated a joint force
of MacKays and Munros. Sir William Munro of Foulis, Justiciary and Lieutenant
of Inverness and the Earldom of Ross was killed at Achnashellach by "Ewen
McAllan Vicoldui," referring to Ewen Cameron, XIII Captain and Chief of Clan
Cameron. Clan Munro records that Sir William was on "King's
business" at this battle.
Achnashellach is 12 miles from the Castle of Strone in Lochalsh, at which Ewen was constable.
